Our Beliefs

At Fresh Start Church we believe God has called us to be overcommers. When we become born again the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within us to empower us by changing us into the likeness of Jesus Christ. As we yield to His leadings, day by day, we are changed “from glory to glory” (2 Corinthians 3:18). We begin to see the goodness of God more clearly, and as we see His goodness in our lives through fellowship with Him, through answered prayers, through prophetic words revealed and fulfilled, through His mighty miracle-working power, and through personal study of God’s Word as well as hearing it taught completely and honestly from our pulpit, we are powerfully drawn to Him and realize that in knowing Him we become more like Him (1 John 4:17).

Paul said that God’s goodness is what changes peoples’ minds about Jesus, His Kingdom, and His Church (Romans 2:4).  At Fresh Start Church we know this is true from experience because our testimony is constantly about the wonderful things God is doing in our lives, changing us from merely existing into vibrantly living in all of the blessings the Bible describes. Because we have seen God’s goodness change us we are committed to focusing all of our lives on demonstrating that same goodness wherever we go. We want to see the testimony of God’s love change your life!

Too many people think that the reason why they should become born again is so that they can go to heaven when they die. If that was all Jesus offered in His salvation package, it would surely be enough. But the people of Fresh Start Church have come to understand that being born again and eventually going to heaven is only the beginning of the blessings in God’s salvation package.

Becoming born again is walking through the door of salvation into the kingdom of heaven. Jesus said, “Eternal life is knowing God the Father and Jesus Christ Whom He sent” (John 17:3), so people who make it their life’s work to really know Father and Jesus are already living in eternal life! They know God personally so they can depend on His wisdom when they face tough decisions. Imagine never having to make a difficult decision by yourself again, never having to wonder if you’ve made the right decision, always knowing that God, Who sees the future, has pointed you towards His very best outcome in your trial! Because they know God personally they make Him an integral part of their daily lives:  He helps them raise their children to be successful members of His Church and of society, He provides the things they need to maintain their homes and possessions in easy times and in hard times, He draws their strengths and talents to the surface so they become equipped to do the jobs they find most fulfilling. People who know God personally are surrounded by His protection; when life on this fallen planet intervenes God is there to rescue them, to heal them, to encourage them, to turn things life and the devil meant for harm into great good in their lives.

Jesus taught us to pray in Luke 11, “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” You’ve heard that prayer a thousand times, maybe even memorized it. But have you ever stopped to think that Jesus was teaching us to pray for heaven on earth NOW? It seems impossible so people usually gloss over that part. But at Fresh Start Church we know with all our being that Jesus wasn’t kidding, that God (Who always answered Jesus’ prayers) longs to answer the same prayer in the lives of all of us who will come to Jesus for salvation and then stick around to live in His Kingdom NOW, ON EARTH, just as it is in heaven.

So, is heaven it? At Fresh Start Church we say, “No way! Heaven is just the beginning!”

We believe…

The Holy Bible is inspired by the Holy Spirit and is the supreme and final authority for believers.

There is one God, eternally existent in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

There is one mediator between God and man, God’s Son Jesus Christ, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary and came to live on earth in a body of flesh. He lived a sinless life and by His death, the shedding of His blood, and His resurrection from the dead made it possible for man to be reconciled to God.

Salvation is the redemptive work of Jesus Christ through the grace of God.  The blood of Jesus is the only way to cleanse man’s sinful nature and remit his acts of sin. Those who repent and receive Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord will obtain eternal life.

Jesus Christ, after His bodily resurrection, ascended to God’s eternal throne and is now at the right hand of God.

Jesus Christ’s work at the Cross provides healing to the total person: spirit, soul, and body.

The Holy Spirit is the indwelling presence of God in the believer’s life. He regenerates, empowers, bestows gifts, enables us to live a holy life, convicts us of sin, and baptizes all believers into the Body of Christ.

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit according to Acts 2:4 is available to all true believers who ask for it.

Christ will return to fulfill His Kingdom. He will judge the just and the unjust.  Unbelievers will be delivered to eternal punishment and damnation. Believers will be taken to live and reign with Jesus Christ in His glory and will have eternal life with Him.

The True Church is the Body of Christ, the brotherhood of believers, a disciplined people obedient to the Word of God, and a fellowship of love, intercession, and healing. The True Church must celebrate the communion of the Lord’s Supper as a remembrance of Christ’s broken body and shed blood.
